The poem Völuspá is preserved in a 13th-century manuscript known as the Codex Regius of the Poetic Edda. It is a dramatic monologue in the voice of a powerful seeress who describes the creation of the world, its destruction, and rebirth. Together with Völuspá, Hávamál is one of the most famous and often quoted of all Eddic poems, and a pillar of medieval Icelandic culture.
Völuspá is presented in a new translation by scholar Emily Lethbridge. The Icelandic text is printed alongside the English for reference, and an introduction provides contextual information.
